Selection of perennials

About 100 to 150 species depending on the classification used, mainly in the Mediterranean and the Caucasus, only a few in Europe and western Asia, but 51 in the FSU, mostly in the Caucasus, only one in western Siberia (A. subtinctoria Dobrocz.). Suitable only for warmer climates, zones (5), 6, 7. Some Russian species are known in horticulture (A. marschalliana Willd.). Some have been studied in the southern regions of the FSU and do well in cultivation (A. dumetorum Sosn., A. iberica Bieb., A. macroglossa Sommier et Levier, A. rigescens Willd., A. zyghia Woronow).

Caucasus (the Lesser Caucasus). In open forests and subalpine meadows. Bushy, 40-50 cm, occasionally to 100 cm high, with erect, much-branched stems. Flower heads 6 to 16 per stem, 4.5-5.5 cm. diam., with white ray flowers and yellow disc flowers. V - April to September. Fl - June. Fr - August. P - by seed or division. Z 5. New.
