ORNAMENTAL PLANTS OF HORTICULTURE VALUE

Selection of perennials

Adenophora Fisch.
Ladybells
Campanulaceae

About 40 species in Eurasia, 20 in the FSU, mainly in Siberia and the Far East.

A. lamarckii Fisch.

Siberia (southern regions). On margins of montane deciduous forests.

Taproot thick and deep. Leafy stem 70-100 cm, glabrous. Stem leaves alternate, ovate-lanceolate, 5-7 cm, dentate-crenate. Flowers numerous, in branched panicles or racemes, nodding. Corolla deep blue, funnel-shaped to campanulate, 2.5 cm long. V - May (or April) to October. Fl - June to July, for one month. Fr - August. P - by seed. Will flower in the second year. Does well in sunny and in partially shaded places. Z 4. New.

Also of horticultural interest is A. tricuspidata (Fisch. ex Roem. & Schult.) A. DC., native to east Siberia, the Far East and northeast China. Stems 70-150 cm, branched, with many nodding flowers. Z 4. New.
