Primulaceae

A small genus of 8-15 species in Central Europe and northern Asia. 8 species in the FSU mostly in Central Asia and the Far East.

Cortusa brotheri Pax ex Lipsky

Central Asia (Dzhungaro-Tarbagatay, Tien Shan), northwestern India, Tibet. On rocky places, along stream in shady places at the timber line.

Scape 20-25 (-30) cm, twice as long as leaves. Leaves in rosette, with long petiole and blade 4-5 cm, rounded - reniform, with round denticulate lobes. Inflorescsnce umbellate, one-sided with 5-10 bright pink violet flowers. V - since early spring till mid autumn. Fl - April - May. Fr - September. P. by seed and division. Does well in good soil in shady places. Good for the rock gardens. Z 6 (5). New.
