The herbarium was collected in the framework of two voyages, at state treasury expence: round-the-world voyage of 1853-1857, and the voyage of 1859-1860.

Type collections of the section of Siberia and Far East
The labels of the voyage of 1859-1960 are printed. The printed text includes: the title "Maximowicz, Iter secundum", region of collecting and the year. Precise localities, habitats and dates are written by hand of Maximowicz in Latin or German language.
A part of the collection is mounted with labels written by hand of Maximowicz, mainly in German.
Later, the collection was treated by V.L.Komarov, translations of the label text in Russian being written by his hand.

Th e collections of C.I.Maximowicz are also kept in the section of Central Asia and the General Section of LE Herbarium.
