VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
APGA 2009 CONFERENCE
June 23 – June 27, 2009
Wayfinder/Greeter
The conference will be held on the fourth floor of the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Riverfront Hotel. Wayfinder/Greeter volunteers will familiarize themselves with the hotel and be able to answer questions about the hotel and general questions about the conference (phones, restrooms, where meals are served, schedules, where meetings rooms are, etc.).
Hospitality Table Attendant
The hospitality table is a service to conference attendees unfamiliar with the St. Louis metro area. Hospitality volunteers will answer questions regarding the city and public transportation. They will also be familiar enough with the city to provide suggestions for dining, entertainment, and sightseeing. Materials like guidebooks, dining guides, and maps will be provided as reference materials.
“Volunteer Central” Attendant
A designated room will serve as “Volunteer Central” throughout the conference. Volunteers will monitor this room and assist with volunteer check-in and preparing other volunteers for their duties. Volunteers will handle conference-related duties as assigned. This room may also be used as a baggage/coat checkroom as a convenience for conference attendees.
Bus Captain *POSITIONS FILLED*
Off-site tours will occur before the conference. Tours are either full-day or half-day. Specific sites to be determined. Conference attendees will also travel to Missouri Botanical Garden and Shaw Nature Reserve for planned conference events. Bus Captain volunteers for the tours will be responsible for: checking in conference attendees as they board (at hotel and at each tour stop); distributing tour-related materials; and, handing out beverages/snacks on bus as needed. Bus Captain volunteers for the buses traveling to the Garden and SNR will assist attendees as they board the bus.
Missouri Botanical Garden and Shaw Nature Reserve Volunteers *POSITIONS FILLED*
Meet tour buses and greet conference attendees. Orient them to your location and activities. Distribute any literature you are providing for your event. At the end of your event, help load the tour buses. Other responsibilities may be assigned, depending on what your location has planned for the attendees.
Pre-Conference Tour Volunteers *POSITIONS FILLED*
Pre-conference tour sites will use their volunteers for planned activities. On-site volunteers are to contact their volunteer coordinator for site-specific details. Specific sites to be determined.
Pre-Conference Set-up *POSITIONS FILLED*
Approximately 600 attendees are expected. Each will receive a cloth bag containing 15 to 20 pieces of information/handouts/giveaways. Pre-conference Volunteers will prepare these bags on June 22, the day before the conference begins.
Bus Tour Guide
*POSITIONS FILLED*
Bus Tour Guide volunteers will develop and provide commentary en route to/from tours, the Garden, and SNR, and will actively interact with conference attendees.
