The "Lover's Retreat" was an
observation point in the Dufferin Island complex and the walk at the water's
edge may refer to the Riverside Ramble, an old prominade of wood built over a
cribwork of stones topped with gravel and constructed on the mainland at the
base of the Niagara Moraine which overlooks and encircles the islands today.
