IDENTIFICATION OF PRIORITY CONSERVATION AREAS IN BOLIVIA AND PERU

In the spring of 2005, CCSD developed a collaborative agreement with NatureServe to analyze endemism along the eastern slopes of the Andes of Peru and Bolivia using computer tools. The project selected two sets of species for analysis: a core set of 380 species to be analyzed initially, and an expanded set that includes 600 species, to be analyzed in addition if time permits. Under the terms of the contract, MBG will provide as many collections per species as possible of the plant groups selected. After maps of the potential distribution of each taxon have been made, the maps will be stacked and areas with particularly high levels of endemic species can be identified.
