Niagara
Issues - Northern Boundary Stream This outfall emerges
from a culvert at the top of the river bank at the northern boundary of
Artpark. The shale substrate of the bank is exposed here. Phragmites forms a
neat little pocket on the shore at its base (second illustration). This
stream modification may be an alteration of the native sheet-seepage on the
river bank on the various private properties north (downstream) of this
outfall. It would be interesting if know whether a similar occurrence exists
on the Ontario shoreline. Observations may be best obtained by boat as the
shoreline is variably very narrow and the river shelves quickly and deeply
from the shore.
