Zander and Pierce (1979) although listed in the New York State flora by
Mitchell (1986) (as Avena fatua ssp. fatua) as naturalized
and escaping. From Europe throughout eastern North America.

Falls. Not persistent," Day (1888). "... known to occur in the
Parks," Hamilton (1943).
Reported as a doubtfully
persistent member of the Niagara Frontier flora by Zander and Pierce (1979).
Mitchell (1986) lists this taxon in the New York State flora where it is
reported as naturalized and escaping. Both subspecies are reported for Ontario
(Morton & Venn, 1990).
