Arisaema
dracontium (L.) Schott GREEN DRAGON. This
species (listed as Dracontium sp.) was reported in 1823 by Douglas from
Goat Island. It grows in rich alluvial soils along streambanks. "... has
been reported as occurring in the Park System, but has not yet been found by
the writer," Hamilton (1943).
Range: swOnt-swPQ. Status: Rare in Canada.
Endangered in New Hampshire. Rare in Minnesota. Protection: Protected by law in
New York, Argus & White (1977). Protected by New York State law, Zander
& Pierce (1979).
Arisaema triphyllum (L.) Schott. var. triphyllum. INDIAN
TURNIP, JACK-IN- THE-PULPIT. In 1823 the Scottish botanist David Douglas noted
in his diary that this species (as Arum triphyllum) grew on Goat
Island. It grows in "rich low woods in mucky soil" (Zenkert, 1934).
