GOALS OF THE CENTER FOR CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
- To analyze and interpret scientific data as a basis for conservation decision-making
- To build the capacity for conservation in tropical countries by training local people in conservation science
- To develop community programs in tropical countries aimed at sound local management of natural resources
- To conserve rare and endangered plants and habitats in the Midwestern United States
- To build partnerships with public and private sector organizations and agencies to foster conservation
- To participate in and promote the international conservation endeavor
The formation of the Center was made possible through a very generous pledge from The Bellwether Foundation, strongly supported by Robert Brookings Smith, then an emeritus member of the Missouri Botanical Garden's Board of Trustees.
