NEW: PUBLICATION IN EVANSIA OF SPECIMENS EXAMINED

To document the extensive work done on distribution by authors contributing to BFNA, Dr. Robert Magill (bob.magill@mobot.org), Editor of Evansia, has agreed to publish lists of specimens examined of authors of BFNA treatments who may have them. This is NOT a part of the BFNA project, and is entirely optional. Authors may submit species lists in any one of three forms:

1. Locality Date for Rare and Uncommon Species.

2. Representative Specimens Examined (County Level).

3. Representative Specimens Examined (State Level).

A standard title for this series is "Reference Collections for North American Bryophytes: (Taxon name here)."

Any of these three alternatives ways of presenting data would be valuable additions to our knowledge of bryophyte distribution. To keep the size of the publication minimal, at least for options 2 and 3, substrate and elevation should not be given (or at most summarized in a sentence) since it is given in an author's BFNA treatment. The format of the citations should be that used by The Bryologist, except that standard FNA abbreviations may be used for states and provinces.

Dr. Magill will accept immediately attachments by email of any submissions. They will be published as space permits over the course of the next few years. Informative maps that summarize the listed distributions may be included in the submitted publication, either in digital form, or in hardcopy.

We repeat that publication of species lists is not a requirement for authors of the BFNA, but is intended to allow those authors who have followed original FNA requirements (that made examination of many specimens necessary) a place to publish their well identified specimens.
