Richard H. Zander, The Center coordinates and facilitates the preparation, by more
than 80 specialists worldwide, of volumes 27, 28 and 29 of the Flora of North
America (FNA). The FNA is a projected 30-volume compendium of information on
the native and introduced plants of North America north of FNA
volumes 27, 28 and 29 concern
nearly 1900 species of North American bryophytes: the mosses, liverworts and
hornworts, and together are called the Bryophyte Flora of North America.
Descriptions, illustrations and maps aid in species identification and
evaluation of species biodiversity. This Web site supports peer-reviewed
"Provisional Publication" of the treatments as they are being
finished, before eventual publication as bound volumes by Oxford University
Press. Volume
27 appeared in hard copy from This Web site is for the authors, editors and reviewers of the BFNA,
and also for the public, which supports the work and will use it in
education, and to guide human interaction with our environment.
