I am interested in using phylogenetic trees to better understand the systematics and morphologic and genomic evolution of flowering plants. My current work pertains to the phylogeny and systematics of the Brassicaceae, particularly using the tribe Physarieae as a model system. By employing molecular analyses and novel statistical methods in this group, I aim to address three general questions:
  • Is there any evolutionary relationship between specific plant traits and lineage diversification?
  • What are the levels of morphological and genomic homoplasy within plants?
  • What are the rates, modes, and tempos of evolution of plant traits?
