For those of us in North America, Madagascar is about as far away as you can get. The farthest town in the world from my home in San Francisco is there. It is the fourth largest island in the world (after Greenland, New Guinea and Borneo), a tropical island continent about the size of France or somewhat larger than California. It is separated from Africa by a distance of about 300km/200 miles.
