Click image for enlargement Tavy has a long history in Madagascar, but it has never been truly stable. As pressures on the land increase, fields are recleared before sufficient secondary growth has developed to restore soil nutrients. This leads to permanent deforestation and more rapid encroachment on previously uncut forest.
