There is still much to be discovered in the natural landscapes of Madagascar. In 1994 a Malagasy plant collector working with the Missouri Botanical Garden rediscovered Takhtajania perreri which had been originally collected in 1909 and not found again. It is a member of the Winteraceae, a plant family whose distribution indicates Gondwanan origin.
