A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Verbum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. verbo: a word, q.v.; pl. “words, expressions, language, discourse, conversation” (Lewis & Short);

- word for word: ad verbum.

- nomina generica plurima in herbariis v. catalogis proposita sed adhuc verbis non definita, nec ab auctoribus recepta (B&H), very many generic names proposed in herbaria or catalogues [i.e.lists or inventories] but hitherto not delimited in words [i.e. in print], nor accepted by authors.

- (moss) [Eustichia] nomen e verbis graecis eu- et stichos, ob folia disticha deductum (Mueller), the name rerived from the Greek words ‘eu-‘ and ‘stichos’ because of the distichous [i.e. two-ranked] leaves [derived from Phylloaonium Eustichia].

v. g.: verbi gratia, ‘for example;’ see gratia,-ae (s.f.I);

- provenit locis sicciusculis gramineis vel herbosis passim (v. g. Polshruch in arvo derelicto (S&A), turning up in somewhat dry, grassy or heraceous [places] (v.g. [= verbi gratia, ‘for example’] Polsbruch in an abandoned field).

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
