A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Urina,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. urina: urine; see ur- or uro-: in Gk. comb. urine.

NOTE: Uric acid is/was used in dye processes, as in old indigo vat recipes, as an alkali modifier to pre-mordant cotton and activate indigo, which is insoluable in water. Color is also set with the vapors of urine. Used best on cellulose fibers.

- [Herba savinia (Juniperus Sabina L.)] herba savina omnibus nota est. Habet vires acres et excalfactorias. Propter quod et in vino potato partum expellit et per urinam sanguinem provocat (Galen in Everett), the savine plant is known to all. It possesses sharp and warming powers [properties]. Because of this, after having been drunk in wine, it both forces out the foetus, and also provokes [draws down] blood through the urine.

- [Roccella] praeparant vero illam hic modo. Plantam in pulverem adeo tenuem reducunt, ut per cerniculum facillime trajiciatur; deinde vetere maris urina (nam mulieris perniciosa habetur) leviter illam irrorant vase ligneo contentam, & semel in die [sic] agitant (Mich.); furthermore they prepare that in this way. They reduce it so much into a fine powder, that it might be easily passed through a seive; then that is lightly sprinkled with the old [i.e. stale] urine of a man (for that of a woman is considered harmful) contained in a wooden vessel, and agitated once a day.

urinalis,-e (adj.B): of or belonging to urine, urinary, urinative.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
