thely-: in Gk. comp. woman-, woman�s-, lady-, lady�s-, female, pertaining to women; fruitful; tender, delicate; effeminate [> thElys,-eia, y, Ep. and Ion. fem. thElea: of female sex, female, of or relating to women; of things, fruitful, prolific, nourishing, tender, delicate; weak, effiminate; opp. arrhen-, arrheno-: in Gk. comp. male, masculine, strong, manly; see arrhen-;

- thelygenus,-a,-um (adj.A), �inducing the female element, as thelygenous castration, the production of pistils in the male-flowers of a host by Ustilago� (Jackson); thelymorphus, thelymorphicus, with a woman�s shape.

-(Orchidaceae) Gyrostachys thelymitra, Thelychiton [> Gk. thElus + chitOn, �with a woman�s frock or dress�], Thelymitra [> Gk. thElus + mitra, �with a woman�s head-dress�], Thelypogon, Thelyschista.

-(Orchidaceae) Microthelys, Platythelys, Stephanothelys

NOTE: perhaps the declension of generic names ending in -thelys are declined according to Greek adjectives ending in -ys,-eia,-y (e.g. thElys,-eia,-y), with the genitive in -os, (Latin -is), i.e. declined like -pitys, gen. sg. pityis (s.f.III), the pine-tree (after Stearn 1983); see �-ys: nouns ending in -ys (sg. generally f. III);�

- ab Platythelye foliis lanceolatis differt, it differs from Platythelys by the lanceolate leaves; Platythelyi similis habitu robusto, similar to Platythelys by the robust habit.

Thelypteris,-idis (s.f.III), abl. sg. Thelypteride, a genus of ferns; T. cristata, spinulosa; Thelypteridaceae, perhaps in Gk. meaning �lady-fern�, thely- + -pteris.
