A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Term (Eng.noun), technical word: terminus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. termino, nom. pl. termini; terminus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. termino, term, technical word; vocabulum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. vocabulo: “a word used to designate a thing or idea, a term, name, etc.” (Glare); see terminus; see terminology;

- terminus meteorologicus, meteorological term.

- [lichen] hypothecium et perithecium termini sunt synonymi (Nyl.), the hypothecium and the perithecium are synonymous terms.

- Terminorum quorundam & vocum generaliorum Interpretatio & Explicatio brevis (Ray), an interpretation and short explanation of certain terms and of more general words.

- (algae) termini sequentes imprimis usitati sunt: spora, sporidium, sporidiolum, spermatium, speirema, sphaerospora, zoospora, gonidium, gemmidium, conidium, gongylus, spermatozoidium, antherozoidìum etc. (Braun), the following terms are primarily used: spore, sporidium, sporidiole, spermatium, speirema, sphaerospora, zoospora, gonidium, gemmidium, conidium, gongylus, spermatozoidium, antherozoidìum etc.

- Speramus fore, ut hisce notis ac terminis necessarie imponendis species Sphagnorum facile atque feliciter distinguantur; WE HOPE, with these very characters and terms unavoidably imposed, that the species of Sphagnum may easily and successfully may in future be distinguished.
