A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Owl: noctua,-ae (s.f.I), an owl, the night-owl, a bird sacred to Minerva; glaux, gen. sg. glaucis (s.f.III), the owl; glaucopis,-idis (s.f.III), abl. sg. glaucopide: gray-eyed (an epithet of Minerva), the owl; tyto-, tyton-: in Gk. comp. 'owl' [< Gk. tytO, an owl].

Tyto,-onis (s...III): a genus of owls; Tytonidae, a monotypic family of owls (barn owls).
