A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Dumetum-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. dumeto: thorn-scrub, thicket, thorn-hedge; gen. pl. dumetorum, “of hedges or of bushy places” (Stearn 1996) [> L. dumus, thorn-bush + -etum,-i (s.n.II), q.v.; see brake, hedge, thicket;

- in sylvis acerosis vulgares: in dumetis frondosis semel lecta; in abiegnis, haud rara (S&A), common in needle-leaved forests; once collected in deciduous thorn-thickets; on fir-wood it is not rare,.

- Ad margines dumetorum juxta Tumbey Bay (F. Mueller), on the margines of a thorn thicket beside Tumbey Bay.

- in dumetis asperis montium praesertim calcareorum Europae (DeCandolle), in the harsh [i.e. spiney] thickets of the mountains, especially calcareous, of Europe.

- [fungus] semel ad dumeta umbrosa in stercore passerino exempla adolescentia maturaque mixta inventa (S&A), discovered once in shaded [thorn] thickets on sparrow dung, adolescent and mature specimens mixed.

- [fungus] vulgaris ad dumeta, in ambulacris frondosis, secus vias sylvaticas etc. (S&A), common in thickets, in leafy walks, along woodland paths etc.

- [fungus] loca amat submontana graminosa, ubi betuleta aliave dumeta frondosa incolit (S&A), it loves below-montane, grassy places, where it inhabits Betula groves or other leafy [i.e. deciduous] thickets.

- in dumetis Cochinchinae (DeCandolle), in the thorn-scrub of Indochina.

Polygonum dumetorum, a vine associated with thickets; Fragaria dumetorum, a strawberry.
