A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Caprea,-ae (s.f.I), a kind of wild she-goat; see goat;

- species elegans ad ramos varios, Salicis Capreae etc. : sed abietinos pineosque praeamat, in quibus copiose occurrit autumno tardo ac inprimis vere (S&A), an elegant species on the various branches, of Salix Capreae, etc.: but it prefers fir and pine [sc. branches], in which it richly occurs in late autumn and especially spring.

- simile porro corpusculum paginam superiorem foliorum Salicis Capreae frequens passim obsidet: sed an fungosum? an entomogonum ? nondum satis liquet (S&A), furthermore a similar little body [i.e. corpuscle] frequently covers here and there the upper surface of the leaves of Salix Caprea: but whether fungal? or [insect-produced?] is not yet quite clear.

Salix Caprea, Goat Willow, “she-goat; because leaves eaten by her -- as if she distinguished as to species or genus” (Fernald 1950); cf. Salix Bebbiana var. capreifolia, “with the leaves of Salix Caprea” (Fernald 1950).

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
