A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Abdomen, belly, paunch: abdomen,-inis (s.n.III), acc. sg. abdomen, dat. sg. abdomini, abl. sg. abdomine, nom. & acc. pl. abdomina, gen. pl. abdominum, dat. & abl. pl. abdominibus; see alvus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. alvo: 'belly, paunch, bowels; womb; stomach, the digestive organs;' see belly, stomach, venter;

- synnemata dorso abdominis hospitis enata, synnemata issuing from the back of the host abdomen.

- Si butyro frigatur herba, & abdomini imponatur, certum est contra tormina remedium. [Cam.] ad quod mulierculae ceu ad sacram anchoram confugiunt (Ray), if the herb may be fried in butter, and applied to the abdomen [i.e. the belly], it is a sure [i.e. reliable] cure against bowel pain [i.e. gripe, i.e. gastric or intestinal pain, colic] to which (common) women resort as if to a ‘sacred trust’ [i.e. ‘sacred anchor,’ i.e. hope].

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
