The Young Friends of the Missouri Botanical Garden is a program for young professionals dedicated to advancing the Garden’s mission. The Young Friends are looking for qualified young professionals to join the Young Friends Council, the volunteer leadership group focused on expanding the Young Friends of the Missouri Botanical Garden. The group consists of up to 30 people. At this time, the Garden is looking for approximately seven new members.

Young Friends’ Council Responsibilities
The mission of the Young Friends of the Missouri Botanical Garden is to educate and engage a diverse group of young professionals interested in advancing the mission of the Missouri Botanical Garden, which is “to discover and share knowledge about plants and their environment, in order to preserve and enrich life.”
Appointed by members’ of the Garden’s Institutional Advancement Division, the Young Friends’ Council members understand and are committed to the mission and vision of the Missouri Botanical Garden. In addition to providing leadership support, committee members raise awareness and implement outreach activities of the Garden’s Young Friends within the St. Louis metropolitan area.
Members of the Young Friends’ Council can serve up to two consecutive two-year terms. Service will be evaluated by both the Council member and the Garden at the end of each term.
Position Description:
Become a member of the Garden. Garden membership starts at $65.
Attend and participate in committee meetings on a regular basis. Review all communication pertaining to the Garden’s Young Friends.
Contribute to the Council discussions and decision-making. Identify topics of discussion for upcoming meetings.
Help establish policies related to the governance of Young Friends.
Maintain positive working relationships within the committee and a willingness to work together as a team.
Identify and develop relationships within the community relevant to the Garden’s Young Friends program.
Actively participate in the strategic planning, executing and recapping Young Friends’ event planning and fund raising. Keep informed on issues which affect Young Friends, and assist in developing and implementing PR strategy. Distribute material as needed, generating enthusiasm and communicating events.
Attend at least two events annually. Provide feedback to the Council after each event.
Ensure that Young Friends act at all times in the best interest of the Garden and its beneficiaries.
Promote diversity through the Garden’s programs and events.
Recruit at least three new members to Young Friends each calendar year.
