#1 - Entrance Garden

A hedge of dense juniper screens the lake from immediate view and provides a backdrop for the arrangement of plants and stone sculptures. Two carved granite stele stand in the entrance garden. One is inscribed with a haiku by Koichi Kawana; the other was erected in his memory.

Follow the path of stepping stones through the hedge for a breathtaking view of the lake. Continue to the base of the waterfall, where you will discover a ceremonial boat mooring. The stone paving leading to it is arranged in a subtle pattern suggesting butterflies.
