Leading to Teahouse Island from the west shore of the lake is a traditional drum bridge. As you pause in contemplation at the top, notice that the circular shape of a drum is completed by the bridge's reflection in the lake below. The steep sides of the bridge serve to slow the steps of those approaching the tea ceremony, perhaps suggesting the difficult path to be traversed between this world and paradise.
