Former Interns...Where are they now?

Diane Brueckmann
Horticulturist II - Rosarian
9 plus years at Missouri Botanical Garden
before retiring in May 2005
MBG Hort Intern - Summer of 1994
An 'empty nester', Diane decided to go back to school to pursue an interest in horticulture. She originally had no intention of making a career out of her hobby but with encouragement from a supportive husband, she went on to get her associate's degree. One of the requirements was to get some practical experience in the field.
Diane tried working in a production greenhouse for a year and doing flower beds at a golf course, which was all interesting to her but not enticing enough to make her seek employment in the field. With a few hours still lacking in her internship requirement, Diane sought a position as a horticulture intern here at MBG. Honing her skills while enjoying the spectacular surroundings and the hort staff, Diane was hooked, and she came back - this time, as a volunteer in the rose gardens.
When a position finally opened for Rosarian, she applied and was offered the position. Diane is a former president of the St. Louis Horticulture Society and a current member of the board
of the Greater St. Louis Rose Society.
She also teaches Adult Education courses and lectures on roses at Missouri Botanical Garden. After retiring, Diane just couldn't stay away and is back to volunteering again!
