Common Brand Names:
| Agri-mycin 17 (Agricultural formulation ) | |
| Ferti-lome Fire Blight Spray |
Chemical Action and Usages: The active ingredient of this bactericide is streptomycin sulfate and is used to prevent and/or control bacteria, fungi and algae in certain fruits, vegetables, ornamentals and ponds. One of its main uses is for the control of fire blight on apples, pear, ornamental pear, pyracantha and roses. The agricultural formulation is labeled for control of tomato and bacterial canker on tomatoes, leaf blight on some ornamentals and for control of algae in ponds.
Cautions/Instructions: Read the label carefully of the brand and formulation you have selected. Apply the product according to the directions on the label. Since streptomycin is a human antibiotic, its wide spread use in the environment is not recommended. This product is best used for fire blight control when other control methods do not work.
Toxicity: Streptomycin may cause skin reactions in some individuals, but is otherwise almost not-toxic to humans. Low toxicity to birds, bees, and aquatic invertebrates. Slightly toxic to fish. Very toxic to algae and may be used to control algae in ponds (follow label directions).
