Common Brand Names:
| Merit 0.5 G (Professional product) | |
| Bayer Advanced™ Long Season Grub Control | |
| Bayer Advanced™ Tree and Shrub Insect Control |
Chemical Action and Usages: Merit (active ingredient imidaclopid) is primarily used for grub control in turf but is also used for the suppression of cutworms, and chinch bugs. Merit kills white grubs both by contact and by ingestion and is transferred throughout the grass roots and stems (systemic). It was formerly the active ingredient in Grub Ex but that product now contains Mach 2 (see Mach 2 information). Merit is best applied as a preventative treatment, so application should be made prior to egg hatch to historically troublesome areas of turf. Merit does provide long term (season long) control of grubs but is not very effective against older second or third instar grubs and is not recommended for curative treatment in August or September. It should be irrigated immediately after application with sufficient water (1/2” to 1”) to move the insecticide into the insect zone. Merit (imidaclopid) is also the active ingredient in Bayer Advanced™ Tree and Shrub Insect Control.
Cautions/Instructions: Read the label carefully of the brand you have selected. Apply the product according to the directions on the label. Spring control of grubs that have over wintered in the soil is not recommended with this product.
Toxicity: Low toxicity to humans, pets or birds. Higher toxicity to fish, therefore do not apply near or allow runoff into ponds, lakes or streams.
