General Culture:

Grow in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun. Prefers moist, acidic, sandy soils, but will tolerate clay soils. Tolerant of light shade, particularly in the South.

Noteworthy Characteristics:

This is a low-growing, dwarf form of Norway spruce which is evergreen, has a compact, flattened globe habit and grows to 2.5' tall. Short, stiff branches with 1/2" long, blue-green needles. Monoecious (separate male and female fruiting structures on the same plant.) Female cones are cylindrical and mature to a light brown.

Problems:

Susceptible to a number of insect and disease problems, the most common of which are red spider mite, spruce gall aphid, budworm, borers and fungal diseases.

Uses:

May be used in the border or rock garden as a specimen, as a foundation planting or specimen around the home, or as a low hedge.
