General Culture:
Easily grown in fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Most clematis prefer full sun, but this cultivar is shade tolerant and will grow in some northern exposures. Roots should be kept cool (shade with annuals or perennials and/or use a 2" mulch) and uniformly moist. Prefers neutral to slightly alkaline soil. Bloom is primarily from previous year's stems, therefore very minimal pruning in early spring is advisable. After the initial bloom, a light pruning may be done to enhance a rebloom on the current year's growth.
Noteworthy Characteristics:
Profuse, wavy margined, 6-8" pale silver lilac flowers with pale yellow stamens cover this vine in summer. Flowers may be cut and floated in bowls.
Problems:
No serious problems. Some susceptibility to wilt. Important to supply adequate nutrients and water to support new growth. Roots must be kept moist in summer and early fall.
Uses:
This vine can be trained to climb a wall, trellis, fence, arbor, porch or lamppost. May also be planted to sprawl over and through large shrubs. Provides excellent, long-lasting summer color. Good cultivar for a shaded site.
