General Culture:

Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerant of a wide variety of soils. Tolerates some drought once established. Intolerant of wet soils. Also tolerant of many city air pollutants.

Noteworthy Characteristics:

'Spearmint' is a Chinese juniper cultivar with a dense, columnar to narrow-pyramidal habit, typically maturing to 10-15' tall but to only 4' wide. Features mostly scale-like, bright green foliage which is attractive year-round.

Problems:

No serious insect or disease problems which are frequently occurring. Susceptible to blight (dieback of stem tips), particularly in unusually rainy/wet springs. Reportedly has some resistance to cedar apple rust. Bagworms can be a problem in some areas.

Uses:

Specimen. Group for an effective screen. Provides good architectural height to shrub or foundation plantings. Particularly effective in narrow, limited spaces.
