General Culture:
Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerant of a wide variety of soils and some drought. Also tolerant of many city air pollutants. Intolerant of wet soils.
Noteworthy Characteristics:
This Chinese juniper cultivar is a dense, evergreen shrub or small tree with a columnar to narrow pyramidal habit. Typically grows 10-15' tall. Feature both scale-like and awl-like, bright green to bluish green foliage which is attractive year-round. A female cultivar that generally produces numerous, silvery blue, berry-like cones. Also sold as 'Hetzii Columnaris'.
Problems:
Susceptible to blight (dieback of stems and twigs), particularly in wet spring weather. Particularly good resistance to cedar apple rust.
Uses:
Specimen. Group for an effective screen. Provides good architectural height to shrub or foundation plantings.
