General Culture:
Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Prefers moist, organic soils. Best grown in full sun with some afternoon protection. ‘Jolly Bee’ has good heat tolerance, and generally will bloom throughout the summer. If flowering stops and/or plant foliage depreciates in the heat of the summer, plants may be cut or sheared back to rejuvenate, shape and/or encourage additional bloom. Side stems may be removed or trimmed at any time to control spread.
Noteworthy Characteristics:
‘Jolly Bee’ is a clump-forming hardy geranium that typically grows in a mound to 24” tall and 24-36” wide. It is distinguished by its large, violet flowers and almost continuous flowering throughout the growing season. It is similar in appearance to G. ‘Gerwat’ ROZANNE (see Y910) except slightly taller. Large, 5-petaled, violet flowers (2” diameter) with purple veins and light lavender centers bloom from late spring to frost. Deeply cut green foliage. ‘Jolly Bee’ is a hybrid originating from a cross between G. shikokianum var. yoshiianum (seed parent) and G. wallichianum ‘Buxton’s Variety’ (pollen parent). U. S. Plant Patent PP12,148 issued October 16, 2001.
Problems:
