Scholarships

$1000 Scholarships for High School and University Students Interested in Careers in Mathematics Education

The Mathematics Educators of Greater St. Louis (MEGSL) is offering two $1000 scholarships to be awarded in April 2008. These scholarships are to be given to two deserving students who plan to pursue career in mathematics education. One will be awarded to a high school senior; the other will be awarded to a college/university student.

The scholarships will be awarded based on the following conditions:

  • Applications must be received no later than April 11, 2008 (extended from original April 1 deadline).
  • The applicant must have at least a 3.0 grade point average out of a 4.0 grade point system.
  • If a university student, the applicant must have at least one semester to complete after May 31, 2008. If a high school student, the applicant must have taken four years of high school academic mathematics courses and have intentions to major in mathematics education in college.
  • The scholarships will be awarded regardless of other monies received.
  • The decision of the Selection Committee is final.
  • The recipient shall indicate acceptance by May 31, 2008, and shall send MEGSL proof of enrollment in a college mathematics education program.
  • The scholarships will be publicized in the MEGSL newsletter, through the education and/or mathematics department(s) of colleges/universities, and through guidance or mathematics departments at high schools in the MEGSL service area.
