Different species of poison frogs have different
kinds of poisons. Scientists think that the poisons come from the insects
and arthropods that the frogs eat. The insects and arthropods, in turn,
may get the poison from the plants that they eat.
Since we cannot duplicate the frogs' natural diet,
our frogs are not poisonous. Crickets and fruit flies are always on the
menu for the Brookings Center's "poison" frogs.
