BARRY LEADS THE WAY. Manual co-PI Barry Hammel, officially representing INBio and the Museo Nacional for the nomenclatural sessions, was but one of thousands of botanists from around the world to descend on St. Louis for the XVI International Botanical Congress, hosted by MO. We will not take the space here to enumerate all the Manual-affiliated participants in the sexennial extravaganza.
LONG-AWAITED UBI'S ON-LINE. INBio's heralded UBI's (Unidades Básicas de Información) are now accessible on-line at:
These are basically sp. accounts including a Costa Rican distribution map, at least one image, and bibliographic notes. For the moment, only about 103 plant spp. are featured, with Manual co-PI Nelson Zamora's treatment of Inga being the most complete. INBio's fern fanatic Alexander Rojas has contributed 27 spp. of tree-ferns. Eventually, all of the information in the Manual (and more) could be placed here. The plan is to link these pages to the INBio data-base. Numerous other improvements are in the works. Take a peek!
WHIRLWIND TOUR. INBio grand-slam masters Francisco Morales and José González worked intensively in the herbarium at MO from 22--31 August, following which they played a few sets at F before returning home.
