Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom

April 18 - April 24, 2003

The peak season of spring bloom will continue for the next several weeks.
Dogwoods are in full bloom throughout the grounds. Redbuds and Flowering
crabapples are past peak, but still very showy.

Azaleas are at peak bloom throughout the grounds. This week and next will
be best for viewing our extensive collection.

The bulb borders are spectacular this week. Daffodils and tulips are in full
bloom throughout the Garden.

Kwanzan cherries and azaleas are in full bloom in the Japanese Garden.
The Wisteria on Teahouse Island is very showy.

Dogwoods, wildflowers and azaleas are showy in the English Woodland Garden.

Standard dwarf bearded iris are beginning to bloom in the Goodman Iris Garden.
Many cultivars are also flowering in the Heckman Rock Garden.

The Shoenberg Temperate House is at its peak of spring blooming, and is filled
with the rich fragrance of Spanish broom (Spartium junceum). Brilliant
magenta African daisies (Osteospermum ‘Wildside’) cascade over the rocks
along the stairs. Bright red Australian bottlebrush trees (Callistemon
acuminatus and C. citrinus) are blooming upstairs, accompanied by
annual wildflowers from the mediterranean climates of the world.

Enjoy the heady aroma of jasmine (Jasminum polyanthemum) in the Linnean
House. Dainty fairy primroses (Primula malacoides ‘Prima series’) and
cyclamen (Cyclamen persicum ‘Concerto Cordelia’) decorate the beds.
