Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
March 14 - March 20, 2003
-
The camellias continue to be very showy in the Linnean House. The heady
aroma of jasmine (Jasminum polyanthemum) and Fragrant olive
(Osmanthus fragrans) fills the house. The beds are decorated with
dainty Fairy primroses (Primula malacoides ‘Prima series’) and
Cyclamen (Cyclamen persicum ‘Concerto Cordelia).
-
The rich and vibrant colors of spring are in full bloom in the Shoenberg
Temperate House. Brilliant magenta African daisies (Osteospermum
hybrid ‘Wildside’) cascade over the rocks along the stairs. The tiled
Moorish Garden is an oasis featuring daffodils (Narcissus ‘Marieke’),
hyacinths (Hyacinthus orientalis ‘Atlantic’) and German primrose
(Primula obconica ‘Libre series’).
-
Witchhazels are flowering in many locations on the grounds. Specimens of
Ozark (Hamamelis vernalis) and Hybrid (Hamamelis x intermedia)
species and cultivars can be found in the English Woodland, Jenkins Daylily
and Japanese gardens.
-
Snowdrops (Galanthus spp.) are blooming in many gardens. Large drifts
can be found in the Mausoleum, English Woodland, Hosta Walk, and Kemper Bird
gardens.
-
Drifts of early crocus are blooming in the Jenkins Daylily and Lopata Azalea
and Rhododendron Garden.
-
Pansies may look a bit worn for the remainder of winter, but their
well-established root systems will push out vigorous new growth and flowers
as soon as conditions allow.
