Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
February 7 - February 13, 2003
-
Witchhazels flower on warm sunny days. Specimens of Ozark (Hamamelis
vernalis), Chinese (Hamamelis mollis), and Hybrid (Hamamelis
x intermedia) species and cultivars can be found in the English Woodland,
Jenkins Daylily and Japanese Gardens.
-
The Linnean House is bursting with color and fragrance. The camellias are
becoming very showy, with peak bloom expected in mid-to late February.
Accompanying the camellias are dainty Fairy primroses (Primula malacoides
‘Prima series’) and Cyclamen (Cyclamen persicum ‘Concerto Cordelia’).
Enjoy the rich aroma of Fragrant olive (Osmanthus fragrans) perfuming
the air in this house.
-
Escape the cold and enjoy spring in the Shoenberg Temperate House. Brightly
colored German primrose (Primula obconica ‘Libre series’), Paperwhites
(Narcissus tazetta ‘Israel’) and Cyclamen (Cyclamen ‘Concerto
Rose Pink Louisa’) illuminate the tiled Moorish Garden.
-
A few early clumps of Giant snowdrops (Galanthus elwesii) can be
found blooming in the Mausoleum, English Woodland, and Kemper Bird gardens
on warm winter days.
-
Pansies may look a little worn for the remainder of winter, but their
well-established root systems will push out vigorous new growth and
flowers as soon as conditions allow.
