Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
November 1 - November 7, 2002
-
Autumn foliage throughout the grounds is becoming very colorful. Areas
especially noteworthy are the Knolls, the Dogwood walk along the tram path
in the English Woodland Garden, and the Japanese Garden.
-
The Hardshelled gourds (Lagenaria siceraria) hanging from the Grape
Arbor in the Kemper Center for Home Gardening are a sight to see!
-
Chrysanthemums in the Pring Memorial Garden in the Japanese Garden are showy.
-
Roses in the Gladney and Lehmann Rose Gardens are still showy.
-
Look for the graceful white twisted spires of the Marsh ladies-tresses orchid
(Spiranthes odorata), blooming in the carnivorous plant bog in the
Shoenberg Temperate House. Yellow daisies (Argyranthemum frutescens
'Maggie'), purple Mexican bush sage (Salvia leucantha) and rose colored
cyclamen (Cyclamen 'Concerto Rose Pink Louisa') brighten the tiled
Moorish Garden.
-
Enjoy the rich aroma of fragrant olive (Osmanthus fragrans) in the Linnean
House. The earliest of the camellias are blooming, giving a hint of the show to
come this winter. Flowing out of the windows are the bright blue blossoms of
the Cape leadwort vine (Plumbago auriculata).
