Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
June 22 - June 28, 2001
-
Summer bulbs are very showy in the Intensive Gardens. Lilies (Lilium
spp.) are outstanding this week.
-
Daylilies (Hemerocallis spp.) are near peak bloom and very showy in the
Jenkins Daylily Garden.
-
Bottlebrush buckeyes (Aesculus parviflora) in the Knolls are past peak
but, but still nice.
-
Roses in the Gladney and Lehmann Rose Gardens are at the peak of seasonal
bloom and very showy.
-
Oakleaf hydrangeas (Hydrangea quercifolia) are blooming in many locations
on the grounds.
-
Smell the rich aroma of gardenias in the Shoneberg Temperate House
(Gardena augusta 'Mystery' and Gardena cornuta.) Look for the
lovely flowers of the caper vines (Capparis spinosa); the caper you
eat is the bud of this flower. Figs (Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey)
are ripening high above the Moorish garden.
-
The miniature gardenia (Gardena augusta 'Radicans') is blooming in
the Linnean House. Double impatiens (Impatiens walleriana 'Fiesta
Salmon Sunrise') and Chenile (Acalypha pendula 'Firetails') are
featured in the hanging baskets.
