Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
May 25 - May 31, 2001
-
Roses in the Gladney and Lehmann Rose Gardens are at peak bloom and very
showy.
-
Sweetspire (Itea virginica) and Oakleaf hydrangeas (Hydrangea
quercifolia) are blooming in many locations on the grounds.
-
Caper vines (Capparis spinosa) are blooming in the Shoenberg Temperate
House. The caper you eat is the bud of this beautiful flower. Also look for
the lovely lacecap hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mariesii'). Venus
flytraps (Dionaea muscipula) are blooming in the carnivorous plant bog.
-
Smell the heavenly aroma of star jasmines (Trachelospermum jasminoides
and Trachelospermum mandianum) in the Linnean House. Double impatiens
(Impatiens walleriana 'Fiesta Salmon Sunrise') and Chenile (Acalypha
pendula 'Firetails') are featured in the hanging baskets.
