Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
April 13 - April 19, 2001
-
Peak of spring bloom has arrived. Flowering dogwoods, Redbuds and
Crabapples are in full bloom throughout the grounds.
-
Tulips are in full bloom throughout the grounds. Daffodils are past peak
bloom, but many are still nice.
-
Azaleas are flowering throughout the grounds with peak bloom occurring
after mid-week.
-
Kwanzan cherries are past peak bloom in the Japanese Garden, but still
nice. Crabapples, dogwoods and azaleas in this garden are showy.
-
Woodland wildflowers are flowering in the English Woodland Garden.
-
Spring is at its peak in the Shoenberg Temperate House. Look for the
showy blossoms of the carnivorous pitcher plants (Sarracenia species)
in the bog. Mediterranean wildflowers abound in the upstairs section,
including brilliant red poppies from Israel (Papaver carmeli).
-
Smell the heavenly aroma of jasmine (Jasminum polyanthemum) in the
Linnean House. The camellia trees are finishing for the season, but a few
late bloomers are still lovely. Cyclamen and Fairy primrose (Primula
malacoides) brighten the beds beneath the camellias. Jasmine and
Chenile plant (Acalypha pendula 'Firetails') are featured in the
hanging baskets.
