Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
April 6 - April 11, 2001
-
Unusually warm temperatures are compressing the spring flowering season,
causing a rapid progression of bloom sequence. Flowering cherries and
Forsythia are in full bloom. Weeping cherries and early Magnolias passed
peak bloom in a matter of days, but many are still showy. Redbuds will be
blooming by mid-week
-
Early daffodils are in full bloom throughout the grounds. Tulips are
beginning to flower.
-
Spring is at its peak in the Shoenberg Temperate House. The white blossoms
of the Banskia rose (Rosa banksiae 'Alba plena') flow over the
walls of the Moorish garden. Deep blue daisies (Cineraria 'Miss
Yokohama') and tall white Calla lilies (Zantesdeschia aethiopica)
surround the central fountain. Mediterranean wildflowers, including
Cyclamen persicum, carpet the upstairs section.
-
Smell the heavenly aroma of jasmine (Jasminum polyanthemum) in the
Linnean House. The Mexican orange (Choisya ternata) is in full
bloom; the strong fragrance is reminiscent of heliotrope. The camellia
trees are waning, but some of them are still lovely. Cyclamen and Fairy
primrose (Primula malacoides) brighten the beds beneath the
camellias. Jasmine and Chenile plant (Acalypha pendula 'Firetails')
are featured in the hanging baskets.
-
Pansies are in full bloom in many locations on the grounds.
