Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
March 30 - April 5, 2001
-
The Forsythia in the Knolls is now in full bloom. Many more species are
poised in full bud ready to bloom with the next lengthy mild spell.
-
Early daffodils, Squill (Scilla spp.) and Crocus are blooming in many
locations on the grounds. Korean rhododendrons (Rhododendron mucronulatum
are now blooming in the Lopata Azalea and Rhododendron Garden.
-
Spring is at its peak in the Shoenberg Temperate House. The white blossoms
of the Banskia rose (Rosa banksiae 'Alba plena') flow over the walls
of the Moorish garden. Deep blue daisies (Cineraria 'Miss Yokohama')
and tall white calla lilies (Zantesdeschia aethiopica) surround the central
fountain. Mediterranean wildflowers, including Cyclamen persicum, carpet the
upstairs section.
-
Smell the heavenly aroma of jasmine (Jasminum polyanthemum) in the
Linnean House. The Mexican orange (Choisya ternata) is in full bloom;
the strong fragrance is reminiscent of heliotrope. The camellia trees are
waning, but are still quite lovely. Cyclamen and fairy primrose (Primula
malacoides) brighten the beds beneath the camellias. Jasmine and chenile
(Acalypha pendula 'Firetails') are featured in the hanging baskets.
-
Pansies are starting to bloom again in many locations on the grounds.
