Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
March 23 - March 29, 2001
-
Spring is at its peak in the Shoenberg Temperate House. The white blossoms
of the Banskia rose (Rosa banksiae 'Alba plena') flow over the walls of
the Moorish garden, and bright yellow daffodils (Narcissus 'King
Alfred'), violet cyclamen (Cyclamen 'Sierra Purple') and deep blue
daisies (Cineraria 'Miss Yokohama') surround the central fountain.
Mediterranean wildflowers, including Cyclamen persicum, carpet the
upstairs section.
-
The camellia trees are past their peak, but are still lovely in the Linnean
House. Smell the sweet aroma of jasmine (Jasminum polyanthemum) and
the Fragrant olive trees (Osmanthus fragrans). Cyclamen and fairy
primrose (Primula malacoides) brighten the beds beneath the camellias.
Jasmine and Chenile plant (Acalypha pendula 'Firetails') are featured
in the hanging baskets.
-
The Forsythia in the Knolls is now in full bloom.
-
Early daffodils, Squill (Scilla spp.) and Crocus are blooming in many
locations on the grounds. Korean rhododendrons (Rhododendron mucronulatum
are now blooming in the Lopata Azalea and Rhododendron Garden.
-
Witchhazels are blooming in many locations on the grounds. The sweet
fragrance of their flowers is most noticeable on warm, sunny days.
-
Pansies are starting to bloom again in many locations on the grounds.
