Missouri Botanical Garden: Plants in Bloom
AT A GLANCE
JULY 2 - JULY 8, 1999
-
Daylilies in the Jenkins Daylily Garden are at peak bloom.
-
Roses in both the Gladney and Lehmann Rose Gardens are in full bloom.
-
Bigleaf hydrangeas are flowering in several locations in the Kemper Center Gardens.
-
Annual bedding plants throughout the Garden are very showy. Particularly noteworthy are the beds in the Kresko Victorian, Milles Sculpture, and Swift Family Gardens.
-
Figs are ripening high above the walled Moorish Garden in the Shoenberg Temperate House. Look for the short-lived flowers of
the Caper vine (Capparis spinosa); the capers you buy are the flower buds of this beautiful plant. Fragrant jasmine (Jasminum
tortuosum) blankets one of the tiled walls of the Moorish Garden.
-
Impatiens are lush and colorful in the Linnean House. Flowering tobacco (Nicotiana sylvestris 'Only the Lonely'), Flowering
maple (Abutilon 'Moonchimes') and Impatiens decorate the fountain.
